Riad Fabiola

Riad Fabiola is a tantalising mix of modern influences and traditional Moroccan design. Standing in the cool, fresh courtyard in the centre of the Riad, you can appreciate the superb craftwork of the old building. The clean, white walls reflect the light as it bounces off the intricate hand-carved plasterwork of the arches, and is absorbed by the dark, hand-made wrought iron balustrades surrounding the open air corridors of loftier levels.

While reclining in a deckchair, or on a sumptuous sofa in an intimate nook in the courtyard, you'll see the four, large and thriving palm trees bordering the small yet inviting pool. During the day, it's a place to escape the heat and cool off with a refreshing dip. As dusk falls, twinkling coloured candles, authentic Moroccan lanterns on the floor, and funky star-shaped lanterns suspended high in the alcoves, gently illuminate the calming space.

Up on the flower-filled rooftop terrace, the star-shaped wall lamps continue the theme and romantically light the cosy seating area. From this high vantage point, the Red City glows around you with a magical intensity. By day the panorama stretches as far as the hazy Atlas Mountains in the distance, with the mishmash of city rooftops surrounding you and the imposing minaret of the Koutoubia mosque a reliable landmark.

Inside the rooms of the Riad a gentle mix of traditional and modern furnishings invite you to relax and unwind. The lounge is the place to retreat to on chillier evenings, with its roaring fireplace and long, white sofa. The soft green walls and vibrant red of the rug add warmth and depth, with the large modern mirror reflecting the light from the traditional windows. The bedrooms are clean and compact, with colourful and modern linen and furniture. Accents of Morocco are subtly incorporated with large, bright woven wall hangings. With friendly staff able to answer questions about where to go and what to see, Riad Fabiola makes a comfortable, fresh base from which to explore the nearby souks and famous Jemaa el-Fna square.
